A great day sunny warm and beautiful. Thought we would go shopping as we needed a couple of things. Traveled to three different areas but could not get what we wanted. Did find some metalic paper which will be good for the EOY certificates but that was not even on the list. Saved the trip from being a total loss. Had a nice lunch out.
Worked at another venue
Worked today at an alternate venue to set up a new laptop for a friend. There was alot to do but it all went well. I feel for the users who have to transition to windows 7 and Office 2010 with limited understanding of the system they are all ready using. All though there is a lot to be gained some rather large shifts in thinking need to be made. Some time needs to be put in to get the most from the upgrade.
Australia defeats New Zealand
Australia haswon the tri nations cup much to every ones suprise. Lots of people felt it would go the other way. There have beeen suggestions that this is a ploy to get more Australians to come to the cup.
Snow In Tuakau
Snow flakes fell in Tuakau today for the first time in memory. They were limited and soon melted but did have the right configuration. The children at school were thrilled and they all saw snow for the first time. The temperature was such that the snow melted quickly but it was still a one in a life time experience.
Whats Wrong?
Is the presure of advertising to blame for the current disorder in the Uk. Economic condition are such that some people will never br albe to purchase a HD TV. Advertising makes this group feel deprived dis satisfied and when the chance comes to plunder and loot and the consequences are not considered.
Will the worm turn?
April 1 is the date for the implementation of Tax Cuts. This was a major plank in the National parties election manifesto. There now seems to be a large number of low income earners who will get no tax cuts and may even face tax increases (perhaps 65%). The tax cuts are aimed at middle and high income earners and are meant to stimulate the economy.
New Zealand’s Golden Day at Beijing
After many days New Zealand finally tastes success at Beijing. Two gold medals a silver and two bronze. The most medals New Zealand has ever won at the Olympics on single day. Perhaps even more exciting is that they were across three different sporting events rowing, cycling and shot put. When you consider that there are only four million people in the country and it is difficult and expensive for New Zealand sports people to get international competition “it is no mean feat “ and the athletes are to be commended for their sacrifice dedication and achievements. Storm will cost tens of millions
During the recent storm in New Zealand the P&O cruises ship Pacific Sun was hit by 7 metre swells and 50 knot winds when it suddenly rolled 600km north of Auckland. Forty-two people on the cruise have received medical treatment.
The storm has continued to lash New Zealand as it has moved down the country towards the South Island. It has been confirmed that the person lost has drowned while trying to cross a river and it seems likely that her husband who is also missing may have also drowned. Some initial estimates of the damage caused by the storm put the costs at millions of dollars.
Petrol down 4 cents today
For the first time some weeks petrol was down in price. This made the news and there was a lot of
people at the pumps. The petrol prices have hit people hard in NZ particularly in the country and farming sectors. Costs have been up in food and other areas due to the transport component in each transaction. However the question is will it last? The bulk oil price has been up and down so much it is hard to be particularly hopeful.
Something has happened
For the last half hour heavy trucks and cars have passed our gate.Few if any ever do so. I think there must have been a major incident on the southern expressway and all traffic re directed through our little town. They all going the same way and heading south. Have checked news sites and TV and radio news nothing available.
